Embracing the philosophy of pedagogy of place, Near North Montessori’s Micro economy and City Trip programs are designed around the cognitive and social needs of the adolescent in a city environment. Crucial to the transition from the second to third plane is the development of independence, leadership, and social responsibility. By providing the adolescent with the tools to live, work, and learn in a city environment, these programs support the valorization of the adolescent among peers, younger children, adults, and the city community. Presenters will talk openly about the evolution of these programs and how challenges have been overcome. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and explore ways to adapt these models within their own school settings.
